Equestrian Instructor

Sydney Smith

Sydney Smith has been a part of the Whispering Hope Stables family since bringing her horse, Goody, in September of 2015. She took the position of program director and trainer in August of 2016 and runs an intimate lesson program here at Whispering Hope Stables solely reliant on the use of boarders’ horses. This creates a happier environment for the horses as well as students and helps prevent confusion. Sydney has had a passion for horses since she was a young girl and started riding horses when she was 4 years old. When she was 14 she moved to Europe where she continued her riding career and competed in jumpers competitions in Belgium. When she returned to the United States in 2014 she joined the Carolina Polocrosse club team and then the NC State Dressage Team. She continues to compete on the Carolina Polocrosse Club team with her horse Goody. Sydney has competition experience in Western Pleasure, Dressage, Jumpers, and Polocrosse but primarily teaches the foundations of dressage and jumping preparation.

If you are interested in joining the lesson program please contact Sydney Smith at Sgsmit11@ncsu.edu

Whispering Hope’s Cowboy

Brian Nichols

Brian Nichols studied under Peter Campbell.  Brian Nichols focuses on Horsemanship and Foundation through teaching his students how to control your horse’s feet, breaking your horse’s feet loose, gain control of the hindquarters, relaxing your horse and getting to the mental side of your horse. Tom Dorrance said “I never met a horse who did not understand this approach.”  He was in search of one but, never found one.

In Memory of Laurie Hutchinson

Laurie Hutchinson started the dream with Whispering Hope Stables’ owner, Amy Peters, in January 2013.  Laurie developed a community and training program that involved assessing her student’s dreams, no matter how small or big, and putting a plan into place to make their dreams come true.  In 2013, Laurie attained her Gold Medal status as a Dressage Rider and won 2013 Horse of the Year, Veva Rose.  On March 4, 2014, Laurie Hutchinson joined the angels in heaven and we will forever miss her and our mission is to carry on Laurie’s Dream!!!
